Washington DC

December 8th 2009

Tuesday morning and I was on the move again... on an 8.30am bus to DC.

Felt like a long enough trip but it only cost $20 so really not too bad! Got into DC at 1pm, the Greyhound terminal feels like it's in the middle of an industrial estate, and it took me a few minutes to figure out where the metro was. Headed straight to my hostel, north of downtown in a place called Petworth. Not too crazy about the area but I'm told it's fine. The hostel is designed for people who are in DC on internships so it's much more comfortable than your average hostel. My room is girlie and there's 8 people in it. But it's got wifi and it's quiet etc so it's pretty good really.

Then I rushed back downtown on the Metro to speak to the guy about an internship. Will await further news about that!

So after that went to a nearby Irish pub called the Dubliner, right by Union Station. Apparently it's very popular with locals and was jammers the night Obama won the election. Food was pretty darn good too. Had a wander around Union Station and headed back to the hostel around 8pm.

More looking for a job online followed... and then sleep.

On Wednesday, I spent the day watching the Irish Budget online (fun!) and looking and applying for jobs online. Then in the afternoon I headed off into town to get something to eat and meet a friend of my aunt for some drinks and DC info!

Got off the Metro at Union Station, and walked down the back of the Capitol to Pennsylvania Ave towards Eastern Market. My out of date guidebook led me to a restaurant that was now shut, so I found a cute little pub called Mr Henry's to eat in and jumped on the Metro to Dupont Circle. Met Monica and her friend there and went to the Brickseller for an evening of beer... well mine was half beer half ginger ale with a hint of raspberry- nice!. Unbelievable but my cab home from downtown was only $9! BEDTIME!
