Sunday’s journey over was the longest day ever. Nineteen hours door to door, the renewed message in that is Heathrow- DON’T DO IT! Missed my flight to NY as expected because we left Dublin late, circled Heathrow for 20 minutes and sat waiting to get a gate for another ten minutes. So I was left with 45 minutes to make the plane from another terminal. Thought I might just make it but security wouldn’t let me in and sent me back to get a new flight. Wasn’t bad though as it gave me a chance to get something to eat and have a look around T5. Anyways, flight over was fine, good video system so got to watch the September Issue, District 9 and first half of the Hangover (really should have watched that first since it’s so awesome, and laugh out loud). Arrived in JFK at 9pm (2am Irish time), dying to get my bags and out into Manhattan.
But alas, because there’s no US immigration at Heathrow like there is in Dublin, we had to wait for over an hour and a half in a non moving queue while everyone did immigration. It was truly ridiculous. So it was after midnight when I found my way into my hostel bed, truly wrecked! Message in all of this is never fly indirectly to the US from Dublin!
Hostel was grand, internet said it was a new hostel, which it clearly wasn’t, an old dorm room or hospital more likely… but it was clean, staff were friendly and my Aussie roommates were lovely.
Day ended with sleep at 12.30am (5.30am Irish time!)
